One of the most long-awaited CD releases in the UK synth music field, ‘First Flight’ is the album debut of CELLISTICA, the duo of Mark Jenkins (‘Tubular Bells The Moog Synthesizer’ / ‘Modular Sessions’ series etc) on electronics and Hannah Chappell on cello.
CELLISTICA made a debut at the 7th Wave Festival in Birmingham, stunning a sold out audience with improvisations in the style of Klaus Schulze and cellist Wolfgang Tiepold (whose 1983 opening track from the ‘Audentity’ album gave the duo its name).
A year later CELLISTICA returned with a complex audio-visual set featuring a combination of improvisations and richly textured cover versions. Then – COVID!
The duo retired for two years to the studio to create an album of amazing covers alongside some compelling original compositions.

‘First Flight’ is the result, a 14-track epic spinning entrancing cello melodies over rich electronic backgrounds. The track list reads like a Who's Who? of Synthesizer, Progressive Rock, Jazz Fusion, Electro-Pop, Minimalist and Soundtrack classics from the past, together with original pieces touching on Techno, Ambient and Berlin School.

If you've never heard Gary Numan's electro-pop played on a cello, a three-hour Philip Glass minimalist opera encapsulated into five minutes, electro takes on soundtracks from ‘Kidnapped’ to James Bond together with insane jazz fusion, digital looping pieces and PINK FLOYD’s epic stadium rocker ‘Comfortably Numb’ all on one album, now's your chance!

The ‘First Flight’ CD also features two stunning vocalists - Stella Maedchen who takes on the YES and Vangelis pieces, and Mark O’Malley, an amazing West End musical performer who joins for the PINK FLOYD track. Fittingly, ‘Comfortably Numb’ closes the album - when you hear CELLISTICA’s take on that legendary closing guitar solo, it could hardly be any other way.

Richly illustrated with studio and concert photos, ‘First Flight’ is a massive and highly innovative treat for lovers of electronic music of every type.
Note: - the album content is substantially different from the early preview CDR versions using a similar title and sleeve. This sold out during the 7th Wave Festivals in Birmingham.
